Challenges ahead in Microwave and laser power Transmission :-

  1. Microwave power transmission :
  2.            Several technological tasks lie ahead of us in our work to develop microwave wireless power transmission technology.
    • Enhance the accuracy of the microwave beam-pointing control.
    • Increase the conversion efficiency from DC power to microwaves (in space).
    • Increased the conversion efficiency from microwave to DC power (on the ground).
    • Reduce the size and weight of the electronic modules.

  3. Laser power transmission :
  4.            Several tasks lie ahead for us in our work to develop the laser wireless power transmission.
    • Develop a space-qualified high-power fiber laser.
    • Increase the efficiency of the electricity-laser conversion.
    • Increase the efficiency of the laser-electricity conversion.
    • Improve the response speed of the FSM (improve the response to fluctuations of the arrival-of-angle of the beam).
    • Work out an optimal optical design for high-power lasers.
    • Develop methods to prevent weather-induced losses of efficiency and blockage of energy transmission (weather forecast, multi-sites).
    • Thermal Control: A key to large-scale laser power transmission is the thermal system design. The concentration factors and lasing efficiencies require the efficient rejection of substantial amounts of heat.
    • Laser Rod Material: Research on the optimal laser rod material to balance the frequency, temperature, efficiency, modularity, and stability requirements of space-based direct solar pumped lasers.
